Daniel chapter 7
Daniel's Dream
1ST HALF TELLS WHAT THE DREAM IS
1st Half Tells what the dream is
Daniel’s dream in verses 1–14 has four scene changes
1. the “four great beasts” (verses 2–8),
2. then the Ancient of Days takes his seat as judge (verses 9–10),
3. then the beasts are judged and the fourth is destroyed (verses 11–12),
4. and finally God gives the eternal kingdom to this mysterious figure called “one like a son of man” (verses 13–14).
2ND HALF TELLS WHAT THE DREAM MEANS
Scene 1. Evil Powers Terrorize God’s People
1st is like a lion, with eagles’ wings (verse 4).
2nd beast like a bear, devouring flesh (verse 5).
3rd is a leopard with wings and four heads (verse 6)
4th beast, terrifying and dreadful and exceedingly strong” (verse 7)
Ten horns, a symbol of great power.
The Little Horn
Verse 8, “There came up among them another horn, a little one”
“a mouth speaking great things.”
Vs 25: he will “speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High.”
Vs 21–22: He “made war with the saints [God’s people] and prevailed over them” — “until the Ancient of Days came.”
Scene 2. The Ancient of Days Holds Court
Before the mountains were brought forth,
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God. Psalm 90:2
Scene 3. The Son of Man Receives the Kingdom
I saw in the night visions,
and behold, with the clouds of heaven
there came one like a son of man,
and he came to the Ancient of Days
and was presented before him.
And to him was given dominion
and glory and a kingdom,
that all peoples, nations, and languages
should serve him;
his dominion is an everlasting dominion,
which shall not pass away,
and his kingdom one
Scene 4. The Saints Join with Him
Verse 27, “the kingdom and the dominion and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven shall be given . . to the people of the saints of the Most High.”
