The Need For Church Life

The Need For Church Life

Against the Ropes

Pastor's First Car

1 Chronicles 12:32 “From Issachar, men who understood the times and knew what Israel should do—200 chiefs, with all their relatives under their command.”

1. Jesus invented the church

Matthew 16:17–18 “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it” .

“church” is ekklesia, which is a local assembly or gathering.

The Greek word for “Peter” is Petros

2. Jesus gave the church His authority

Matthew 16:19, Jesus said, “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

The church has the authority to bring the full power and truth of heaven with it to

a hurting and sinful world . . . or we can park it in the garage.

3. Jesus said we are better together

a. we do more together

Romans 12:4–6 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.”

b. We grow deeper together

Colossians 3:16  “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.”

c. we worship better together

1 Chronicles 16:29 “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.”

Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

W. Tozer “Sometimes I go to God and say, ‘God, if Thou dost never answer another prayer while I live on this earth, I will still worship Thee as long as I live and in the ages to come for what Thou hast done already.’ God’s already put me so far in debt that if I were to live one million millenniums I couldn’t pay Him for what He’s done for me.”
