True Virtue
When you feel like giving up
Hebrews 10:35-37 NIV So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.
36You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. 37For, “In just a little while, he who is coming will come and will not delay.”
Joshua 6:1-5 NLT Now the gates of Jericho were tightly shut because the people were afraid of the Israelites. No one was allowed to go out or in. 2But the Lord said to Joshua, “I have given you Jericho, its king, and all its strong warriors. 3You and your fighting men should march around the town once a day for six days. 4Seven priests will walk ahead of the Ark, each carrying a ram’s horn. On the seventh day you are to march around the town seven times, with the priests blowing the horns. 5When you hear the priests give one long blast on the rams’ horns, have all the people shout as loud as they can. Then the walls of the town will collapse, and the people can charge straight into the town.”
WHY DO WE GIVE UP?
1. Our perspective is often limited.
2. Our progress isn’t always obvious.
Psalm 139:23-24 NIV Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
THREE AREAS TO EXAMINE
· Where you are most defensive.
· What you don’t want others to know.
· What you criticize in others
Joshua 6:10-11, 14 NIV But Joshua had commanded the army, “Do not give a war cry, do not raise your voices, do not say a word until the day I tell you to shout. Then shout!” 11So he had the ark of the Lord carried around the city, circling it once. Then the army returned to camp and spent the night there. ... 14So on the second day they marched around the city once and returned to the camp. They did this for six days.
God often does something in you before He does something for you.
Hebrews 10:36 NIV You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.
Galatians 6:9 NIV Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
