Week 3: Three stories we shouldn’t separate:

Joshua - The Early Years

1. To be a great leader, first be a great apprentice.

Joshua was an apprentice under Moses for years


"overwhelmed Amalek and his people,"


"Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, and whenever he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed."

Joshua and Jericho -

2. God knows what is best even when it seems crazy.

1st crazy command – Crossing Jordan


Joshua 3:11 (ESV) — 11 Behold, the ark of the covenant of the

Lord of all the earth is passing over before you into the Jordan.


2nd crazy command – Circumcise all Males


Joshua 5:2 (ESV) — 2 At that time the Lord said to Joshua,

“Make flint knives and circumcise the sons of Israel a second time.”


3rd Crazy command – March around Jericho


Joshua 6:6 (ESV) — 6 So Joshua the son of Nun called the priests and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the Lord.”

Rahab-

3. God does not view your past as insurmountable.

Joshua 6:25 (ESV) — 25 But Rahab the prostitute and her father’s household and all who belonged to her, Joshua saved alive. And she has lived in Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

Achan-

4. Don’t try to cheat God.

Joshua 7:19–20 (ESV) — 19 Then Joshua said to Achan, “My son, give glory to the Lord God of Israel and give praise to him. And tell me now what you have done; do not hide it from me.” 20 And Achan answered Joshua, “Truly I have sinned against the Lord God of Israel, and this is what I did:

Joshua

Joshua goes down in history as a great leader.

Joshua 6:27 (ESV) — 27 So the Lord was with Joshua,

and his fame was in all the land.


Achan – A Big Time Loser



Rahab – A Big Time Winner
