Matthew 12:1 (ESV)

12 At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath.

His disciples were hungry, and they began to pluck heads of grain and to eat.

Matthew 12:2 (ESV)

2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him,

“Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath.”

Exodus 20:8–11 (NLT) 8 “Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 You have six days each week for your ordinary work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the LORD your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.

Matthew 12:3–5 (ESV)

3 He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, and those who were with him: 4 how he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence, which it was not lawful for him to eat nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests?

5 Or have you not read in the Law how on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath and are guiltless?

Matthew 12:7 (ESV)

7 And if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’

you would not have condemned the guiltless.

Hosea 6:6 (ESV)

For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice,

the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.

Matthew 12:8 (ESV)

8 For the Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.”

WHO DID YOU THINK I WAS WHEN:

1.     You were spying on me and my disciples?

2.     You accused me and my disciples of breaking the law?

3.     I taught about David and the Priests?

4.     I said I was greater than the temple?

5.     I changed the focus from God’s Law to God’s Mercy

6.     I said I was Lord of the Sabbath?

7.     Who do you say I am now?
