The Purpose of Christmas
Now What?
I. THE NEW YEAR - BE CAREFUL
Ephesians 5:15-17
15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
Colossians 3:1-4 tells us what we should be doing and/or focusing on. 1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life
is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
II. THE NEW YEAR - BE THOUGHTFUL
Ephesians 5:18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
I Cor. 10:31 “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
Gal. 5:13 “You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature[a]; rather, serve one another in love.”
Gal. 6:2 “Bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
Gal. 6:9-10 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”
Matthew 22:36-40 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: " ’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ’Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
III. THE NEW YEAR - BE THANKFUL
19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Psalms 103:1-3 "Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. “Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits- who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases..."
Psalm 77:3b, “I complained and my spirit was overwhelmed.” New King James Version.
Philippians 2:13 “Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe.”
I Thess. 5:18 “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
